“Ballet is good for the body, mind, and soul.” This is a favorite saying of Lacey Flowers, one of our former adult ballet instructors who believes that adults can tap into the benefits of ballet. By taking time for yourself, you will feel better; therefore, your outlook on life and on yourself will improve. Benefits of adult ballet classes include goal setting, stress relief, strength building, artistry, and self-improvement. According to a Mayo Clinic article, better flexibility may improve your performance in other physical activities and decrease your risk of injuries by helping your joints move through their full range of motion; enabling your muscles to work most effectively. Stretching also increases blood flow to the muscle. These attributes can be improved through ballet. Here is an information article highlighting the health benefits derived from participating in ballet as an adult. https://hobbylark.com/performing-arts/The-Benefits-of-Ballet-Lessons-for-Adults
Want to protect against the effects of Alzheimer’s? Learn another language. That’s the takeaway from this article reporting on brain research which shows that bilingual people’s brains function better and for longer after developing Alzheimer’s. Ballet has a language all its own. Échappé, balancé, devant, jeté, port de bras, and rond de jambe are all terms commonly heard in ballet class. Learning this new language is great exercise for our adult brains.
Our adult ballet class in Houston is geared to the level of the students that attend class. We have students that are true beginners to adults who danced growing up. Sometimes our own BCH teachers will jump in for a class. The teachers start with the basics and foundations of ballet and build upon these skills as dancers improve. They offer individual assistance and desire for students to “challenge themselves at their own level”. In our adult classes our participants laugh a lot and get a great work out especially in their thighs, buttocks, core, arms, and mind all while improving balance and strength.
A free trial class is offered so that adults can come in and get a feel for the class and see if it fits their needs.
