Kristy Nilsson
Kristy Nilsson began her training with Victoria Vittum and Gilbert Rome at Ballet Center of Houston and graduated Cum Laude from Houston’s High School for Performing and Visual Arts. Ms. Nilsson was a Dance Pedagogy Honors student at the University of Oklahoma and later performed onstage with the Charleston Ballet Theater and Atlanta Ballet. Ms. Nilsson has choreographed nearly 150 concert works (including 15 one-act or evening-length narrative ballets) which have been performed by 34 companies in 13 states in the U.S. and Canada. Her choreography has won recognition from the National Women’s Choreography Project, Northeast Louisiana Arts Council “Artist of the Year” Committee, Regional Dance America, Dance Canvas and the Georgia Ballet. She enjoys teaching ballet, modern dance and jazz to hundreds of students each year and especially appreciates the opportunity posing as a guest choreographer and teacher has given her to work with hundreds of Pre-Professional and Professional dancers throughout the Southeast. Ms. Nilsson is delighted to be teaching at Ballet Center of Houston and Kinder HSPVA, two of the “dance homes” that shaped her career and love for dance. Kristy is happily married to Scott Nilsson, a former dancer and professional dance photographer; they love living and working together in Houston.
